ProMediaGear Katana Gimbal Head.

For long, we have been driven to create something revolutionary. The Katana Gimbal is the result of not copying but innovating from grounds up. It looks, operates, and consists of materials that are not the result of cost cutting but those that are the finest available. It operates smoothly even with the heaviest and most expensive lenses. Imagine all day shooting with a super telephoto lens without getting tired.

The Katana Gimbal Head provides ultra smooth movement and stable support for even the longest telephoto lenses. The ProMediaGear Katana is capable of supporting up to 150 lbs of equipment and features an Arca-Type cradle attachment. Separate locking and adjustment mechanisms allow friction adjustment without instability. Camera and lens positions can be adjusted smoothly with one hand and a balanced position maintained without tightening.

The Katana is made of hard anodized, scratch-resistant 6061 aluminum alloy and CNC precision machined parts in the USA. Maintenance free, designed with weather-sealed ball bearings, enables the head’s smooth movements. The Katana also features over-sized knobs for ease of operation.

Mr.
5 stars, no question. I can't imaging a camera/lens this can't handle with aplomb. Build quality in all respects is superb and the included cover and ARCA plate are appreciated. It's a little heavy, but to my mind stiffness is ALL. I won't be schlepping it deep into the woods. I purchased this for photographing the eclipse and later birds and whatever else I fancy. My Wimberley has some very light stiction when moving slight a amount trying to follow the sun. In this regard the Katana is better due to the roller bearings, but when tightening the pivots the camera head moves slightly, so zeroing in on a position and locking it down is a bit of an iterative process. That being said, I don't think the head needs needs to be locked down very tightly after experimenting for an afternoon. I'm using a Canon 7DMkII with 100-400 L IS II zoom and either a 1.4 or 2.0 extender. Also remote trigger and Thousand Oaks solar filter. I'm experimenting with the tradeoff between autofocus/less mag and manual focus/more mag. I might just lock it into a position with a lesser mag and take photos as the sun marches across the sky. I bracket the exposure and use silent continuous shooting.
