A nodal rail is needed when it is necessary or advantageous to mount a camera body directly onto a gimbal head. For example, if a lens without a tripod collar is mounted to a camera body, then a nodal rail will be needed if you want to use a gimbal head. The PXC2 8 inch Nodal Rail requires that the camera body have an Arca-Swiss plate attached and requires that the tripod head also be Arca-Swiss compatible. The PXC2 8 inch Nodal Rail has enough length to balance the likely equipment that will be used with this product. However, there can be clearance issues between a deep camera hand grip and the cradle clamp of a gimbal head such as a Katana Jr; if so, the issue can be addressed by reversing the assembly so that the gimbal frame is on the left side of the camera. It is very well made and sturdy enough for the weight of equipment that is likely to be mounted on it. The knurled knob that clamps the Arca-Swiss camera mount is 31mm long and beautifully made; however, it comes a little too close to the face when looking through the view finder (but isn't an issue if the rear LCD is being used). The same knob seems to be used on many of the PMG Arca-Swiss clamps where its full 31mm length is necessary to protrude from under lenses enough so that the knob can be easily reached from the side. On the PXC2 Nodal Rail, the knob doesn't protrude from the side and doesn't have to protrude as far from a camera body as it does from under a lens; as a result the knob could be shorter and the PXC2 would be better for it. Nevertheless, the PXC2 is completely usable. A nodal rail is essential when a camera body needs to be mounted directly to a gimbal head.

I use the nodal slide with the BH1 Pro head and Katana gimbal head for parallax-error-free panoramas and it works great! Much more compact than other pano set ups I’ve used in the past, and a better value compared w/ other makers out there (i.e. RRS, Nodal Ninja, etc.)

A great piece of quality equipment. I bought it to attach to the Promediagear L-Bracket on my Canon 5D Mk4 so that my camera was able to attach to a gimbal. It works perfectly and is solid and well made.
