SS2 QD Camera Strap system DSLR Mirrorless

Description:

Retrofit your current strap with less than 1 inch webbing to our SS2 Quick Release Adapter with ease!

To install, simply lay the mechanism over your strap webbing and push the pin through the hole and across to the other side. Open the loctite and place a small drop inside the threaded area. Insert the supplied screw and tighten. The screw will pull the pin snuggly into the other side of the strap. As an added measure of safety we manufactured the SS2P2 with (2) small additional set screws. Insert a drop of loctite into each hole and carefully install the small screws. That's it!! You may choose to leave the other mechanism on your strap or carefully remove it. The SS2P2 is compatible with the PMG Quick Release Strap System. This is the new version retrofit quick connect. I also use the older version retrofit. I loved the old version and when I went to buy a second one, I couldn't find it - then I saw the new model. This is the best way to carry a large lens with attached camera. Strap comes off quickly yet it is robust. I've used with Nikon 500/f4 with gripped D500, Sony A7RIII, RIV, III and 100-400. As long as you use the PMG plates you can share the same strap with the connector for any that have the plate mounted. I love this product! IF you use one, you won't want to use anything else. The new model retrofit quick connect mounts on the carabiner clip featured on the more recent Blackrapid straps.

Handy Strap Accessory

I've been using the SS2P2 Retrofit Quick Release Plug Adapter to attach my Black Rapid strap to a Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6 (via PMG Archa Swiss plate) when shooting handheld as well as with the PMG L-Bracket for Nikon D850. It provides a solid connection and I've had no issues whatsoever.

Strong and Reliable Plug

I use this plug to connect my 5D IV or EF 100-400 L IS II to my shoulder strap via OpTech Uni Loop Connector as shown on the image attached. It is built strong as two other design, SS2P1&3. The reason for minus one star is due to its limited angular movement compared to other two plugs, 90 degrees vs 270 .

Quality is excellent as other PMG products. It works well, but is rather bulky. I ended up returning it, not because it did not work well but because I wanted to use it on a camera bracket. PMG does have an offset socket you can add to their L-brackets, but I didn't really want to go that route. It also seems expensive for what it is. However, it is still an excellent product. If it works for you I would still recommend it.

Best quick release system

This is an excellent and precisely crafted piece of machinery. Allows you to retrofit an an existing camera strap loop or hook to a ProMediaGear plate/L-Bracket. Movement is fluid and the solid mechanism feels secure on my Hold Fast Money Maker camera strap (see photos). I've converted the connection by using the SS2P2 for a secure fit with my PLND850 L-Bracket (Nikon D850) and PLNZ67 (NIkon Z6 II) L-Bracket. It's easy to attach/detach with the press of the center button on the top of the plug. It appears to be universal and should fit any bracket plate sold by ProMediaGear featuring the Quick Release Adapter, plus it's Made in the USA. Recommended!

Best QR system around

I purchased the Retrofit QR Plugs for my Black Rapid Breathe, Black Rapid Double and RucPac Double straps. I had to cut the SS2P3 straps off my Black Rapid straps because the hex cavity for the hex wrench stripped when I tried to back them out, which was $150 down the drain. But I didn't want to take the original Black Rapid connectors off and these new SS2P2 retrofit plugs connect to the Black Rapid connectors. The PMG QR system is the best QR system on the market, except that PMG won't support older camera models that are still on the market. I have to use a PMG generic vertical section with the battery pack-bracket on my 5DSR, and every time I have to change the batteries I have to take off the vertical section, which is a time consuming process. I wasn't about to take off the original Black Rapid connectors when I'm waiting for a fully-supported QR solution to come along, and it was just noisier and clumsier to have two connectors banging together on the straps. This new SS2P2 is a better solution for use with the Black Rapid and RucPac straps.

SS2P2 Retrofit Quick Release

Attached this to my peak strap and love the ability to quickly remove my camera from the strap. Next I need the plate but held back since I just recently got a small-rig cage. I will definitely be picking up more of these in the future and definitely recommend it.

Quality machining and a new standard

These quick release plugs and the SS2 system are fantastic. A powerful hold, then the ability to release and mount your camera. Time saver. There are other uses as well. Think of the Ronin S with the switch grip- add SS2 port to 3/4" thread hole on the back mount, and have a quick release safety or weight distribution assist- can be removed immediately for more intense action.

This clips on to most old clip systems, I use it with Peak Design anchors and some other straps with small carabiners. Tough and well built

Q: Hello - I have the prior model also and just received the P2 new version. I noticed that the arc of travel in rotation on the new model P2 is limited - picture on the web site is exactly as far as it will pivot. The button cannot pivot to the point it is fully exposed versus old version where it would swivel much more and fully expose the button. Just curious to see if this is intent as a measure of preventing accidental release? If so - you might add a remark or note because users of the older version might wonder. When I detach lens/camera, I hold it by the 6" plate and pull it towards me and the old swivel goes flat exposing the button fully. New version seems OK, maybe more deliberate. Just curious. Thanks

A: The design of the SS2p2 is deliberate. We have designed with restricted motion to reduce the chance of scratching the camera with the hardware/carabiners that are attached, if it was free to swivel all the way. This ends up being a kind off safety feature, but it’s a bit more restrictive in accessing the release, although still very efficient and quick.

Q: Hello PMG, Looking at using the SS2P2 with my Black Rapid straps, Wimberley lens foot and current base plates. Wanted to ask if the SS2P2 will lock into one of the additions holes in the foot or plates I have or due I have the plunger sleeve for the SS2P2? It seems like I would have to replace all of my current devices to use your system or do you have an universal option? Also interested in using a parachute cord for a safety lanyard. Thanks

A: SS2 is our proprietary Strap Release mechanism, and is only compatible with PMG straps. You would need to have base plate that features SS2 port in order to use the SS2P2 plug connector.
We've recently made QD versions (military Strap Release system) for some of our brackets which is compatible w/ Black Rapid straps. We’ll be transforming everything into the QD system but it’s gonna take a long time for all the plates and brackets to have QD option.

A: These holes are used during manufacturing of the piece to hold it in place when machine is drilling around it.

Q: Already have the ProMediaGear PBCR5/6 plate and not sure which plug size it has so that I may purchase the appropriate Quick Release Adapter. Which Quick Release Adapter I need for my PBCR5/6 plate? SS2P1 or SS2P2?

A: Choosing the right strap port can be tricky but purchasing the right plug connector really depends on your strap. The SS2p1 is meant to be used w/ straps like peak design that uses anchor links. And the SS2p2 is designed to be used w/ carabiner type straps.
